Inside Our Studios & Programs

The studios at Sage Academy Granbury are dynamic, mixed-age spaces where learning, work, and play come together in a supportive community. Learners collaborate daily, fostering responsibility, respect, and personal growth. Character development is an integral part of this environment, as learners support and challenge each other in meaningful ways. It’s important to note that studio transitions are based on both social and academic readiness rather than strict age brackets—learners move up when they demonstrate the confidence and capability to thrive in the next level.

Toddler Spark Studio (18 mth - 3 Years)

This studio follows the Montessori curriculum and method, providing a strong foundational basis for our youngest learners as they begin their journey at Sage Academy. The goal of this studio is to spark an interest and curiosity in learning by providing an environment rich with self-correcting and hands-on materials. At this stage, learners refine gross and fine motor skills, build perceptual and language skills, and develop a love for exploration and discovery.

Core SKills

Core skills form the foundation of lifelong learning. Learners dedicate about three hours daily to setting SMART goals and focusing on reading, writing, or math. Sage Academy blends Montessori influences with adaptive online systems and educational gaming, ensuring meaningful, personalized progress. Tools like Khan Academy, Reading Eggs, Mathseeds, Nessy, and Dreambox act as a GPS, guiding each learner at their own pace and ability level.

Quests and projects bring traditional subjects like science, social studies, and history to life through hands-on, learner-driven experiences. These game-like challenges encourage problem-solving, creativity, and collaboration. Each quest is designed to spark curiosity, answer big questions, and develop real-world skills, helping learners apply knowledge in meaningful ways.

QUEST TIME

OUTSIDE

Free TIME

During specials, learners select a new skill to focus on each session. These skills range from sports and games to music and other creative pursuits, chosen by the group to align with their interests. This approach fosters fitness, sportsmanship, and teamwork as part of each learner’s Hero’s Journey.

Free ART

Guides at Sage Academy use the Socratic method rather than lecturing. Instead of providing answers, they set up scenarios and ask questions to stimulate critical thinking, debate, and inquiry.

Each day begins and ends with Socratic launches, which help create energy, focus, and purpose. These launches may include stories, videos, or real-world scenarios that challenge learners to think deeply and make important decisions. Socratic discussions help maintain a strong learning community and encourage learners to take ownership of their educational experience.

Writers

WORKSHOP

Every day, learners dedicate 30 minutes to silent reading, choosing from a wide range of books in the studio. This practice builds focus, imagination, and a lifelong love of reading.

Sage Academy does not have a formal PE program, but learners spend up to 90 minutes daily in Adventure Grove. We call this time free time, allowing them to release energy and explore the outdoors with non-structured play and allowing them to push boundaries through risky play.

SPECIALS

Art is an integral part of each day, either through formal projects or open-ended free art. Learners have opportunities to showcase their work at exhibitions and explore various artistic mediums during free time, fostering creativity and self-expression.

SOCRATIC

DISCUSSIONS

Writer’s Workshop is designed to instill a love of writing, reading, and storytelling, empowering young heroes with the understanding that clear communication leads to freedom and opportunity. Learners engage in daily writing throughout their elementary years, striving for excellence through repeated practice.

Each session of Writer’s Workshop focuses on a different genre. Guides design a new writing quest each session, allowing learners creative freedom while teaching them how to navigate the constraints of each genre. The workshop takes place 2-3 days per week for 1.5 hours and begins with a launch that introduces new writing techniques through mentor texts.
